MAGUWU’S LIFE ENDANGERED – 16 June 2010 PDF Print E-mail

The life of Farai Maguwu, the incarcerated director of the Center for Research and Development (CRD)  in Zimbabwe, is in danger after police officers who abducted him from remand prison tampered with his medication. Maguwu’s lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa on Wednesday 16 June 2010 told High Court Judge Justice Chinembiri Bhunu that some unidentified people, who hosted him after he was booked out of remand prison on Friday 11 June 2010 until his return on Tuesday 15 June 2010 had altered the medication which he was taking to cure a sore throat, chest infections and fever. Mtetwa said the unidentified people substituted Farai’s medication with medicine of unknown origins. In response to Mtetwa’s concerns and complains Justice Bhunu, who presided over the bail hearing lodged by Maguwu’s lawyers ordered the human rights defender to be examined forthrightly by a medical doctor of his own choice. Meanwhile, Justice Bhunu postponed Maguwu’s bail hearing to Thursday 17 June 2010 at 14:30 hours.
