FDC takes the position that there are indispensable rights that are preconditions without which democratic governance is impossible, and which any government is obligated to respect and fulfill: civil and political rights, economic and social rights, and the right to peace and security. The fundamental elements of these rights are freedom of association, freedom of speech and access to information, the provision of basic needs, and peaceful resolution of conflicts.

Our mission is to establish a truly united Uganda in which people live in peace and dignity, with social and economic justice, under an honest, transparent, open and accountable government.
Our Values
- Constitutionalism.
FDC respects and pledges to honour the supremacy of the Uganda Constitution and the clear separation of powers between the executive, legislature and the judiciary as mandated by the Constitution. We pledge never to manipulate and amend the Constitution for selfish political gains.
- Promotion and Protection of Fundamental Freedoms.
FDC believes that the most solemn duty of a government is to protect her citizens and their properties, and uphold and promote their human rights. We believe that the rights to freedom of assembly, worship, association, organization and access to information form the indispensable bedrock of any genuinely good and democratic government.
- Democracy and Good Governance.
FDC affirms its commitment to free, fair, and regular elections by an informed electorate, and to ensure that constituents have the rights and means to remove from positions of power elected officials who do not fulfill their duties.
- Social and Economic Justice.
FDC believes that the State has the obligation to fulfill the people’s economic, political, cultural and social rights and needs, and promote national development equitably within available national resources.
- Equal Opportunity and Emancipation of Women and People With Disability.
FDC firmly believes in gender balance and social equity, and shall firmly uphold the rights of women and members of marginalized and disadvantaged groups to be effectively represented at local and national levels, and their interests and needs adequately addressed in policies and national programmes.
- Peace, Security and the Rule of Law.
FDC believes in conflict prevention, national reconciliation and peace building, and in deliberately promoting policies and mechanisms to democratic governance and mutual tolerance of all contending viewpoints, opinions and ideological lines. We shall also ensure that governance institutions and security agencies respect and conform to the law, and shall protect and guarantee the well-being of the State, constitutional rights and peace, harmony and the security of persons and property for all.
- Zero Tolerance of Corruption and Political Patronage.
FDC is pained by the breakdown of governance systems, and wastage and illegal diversion of national resources because of tolerance of criminal tendencies and political buy-out. To reverse the malaise, we shall ensure zero tolerance of corruption and political patronage, and that all politicians account to their constituents and public officers adhere to set standards of accountability, transparency, professionalism and integrity, at all levels and at all times.
- Restoration of Hope and Development to Conflict Affected Areas.
FDC recognizes the unacceptable conditions under which the people of Northern and Eastern Uganda, Karamoja, Luweero Triangle and other conflict affected areas have lived over the last 25 years, and commits itself to ending their suffering, restoring hope, and investing in the recovery and rapid development of these regions and all disadvantaged areas of the country.
- Rapid National Transformation.
FDC recognizes the tremendous economic and human resources potential of the country, and what we can achieve when these resources are put to good use. To this end, the Party commits itself to developing and implementing economic, social and overall national development policies, programmes and activities that will ensure rapid rural transformation and the development of Uganda into a middle-income country within 20 years.
- Peaceful Coexistence and International Co-operation.
FDC believes that peace is the cornerstone of regional and international co-operation and progress, and also recognizes that globalization has made Uganda part and parcel of the global village. FDC shall promote peace and dialogue in the Grate Lakes Region and shall lead by example. We shall also strengthen our membership and representation, and fully support and effectively participate, in the East African Community (EAC), the African Union (AU), the United Nations (UN) and other regional and multilateral trade and development organizations and initiatives.
